The Second Coming
Like many of my peers, I grew up without my father. Yes, I knew him, but only through a hit and miss relationship. A relationship smeared with so many disappointments, confusing conversations and leaving me, like so many others, searching for a father figure in all the wrong places.
Funny thing is, I didn’t make this film for me, but for HIM. As I searched for the answers to my own questions about why he wasn’t there, or why he left us struggling to survive, I couldn’t help but wonder what he had gone through himself. Who were his role models? Where did he find guidance? And I realized that he was just like me…fatherless, and had no real idea of what a father should be.
I made this film as a call to action to all fathers…to let them know that no matter how jacked up their childhoods were, being absent doesn’t necessarily fix the problem for their children. Maybe you don’t feel you can teach your children much, but just being there…just showing up…means more than you’d ever know. At least you can teach us what we shouldn’t do…so we don’t repeat your mistakes.
“Wayne Dehart gives a quietly, moving portrayal of the father.”
